Yes, we really do have a giant statue of a closthespin in down town Philadelphia. Right next to City Hall. Actually, it marks 15th street station on the Market-Frankford line, locally known as the "El" for elevated train, which by the time it reaches Market street is underground.
Welcome to Philly.
We have a unique character, something I was reminded of on my recent foray down town in search of a job. There are parts of the city that are older than our nation, and other parts that will be put up and taken down in one night. We walked by little tin lunch trucks, past the beautiful stretch of Benn Franklin Parkway with the massive Romanesque Art Museum hovering over the horizon. I love my city.
About the only wretched thing about Philly is a airport, so if you come to visit, drive. Otherwise, I'm giving tours for any friends of Momtoast who would like to come. Most of the historic stuff is free or very cheap, and worth a visit.
